Entrepreneurship Training for Small Enterprises

Duration:

The course is over a period of five (5) days and covers learning material laid out in 6 modules.

Course Outline:

This course is designed to enrich the capacity and willingness of the learners to develop, organise and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit. Practical exercises are included in several of the modules in order to implement learning outcomes.

  • What is an entrepreneur?
  • How to manage ideas and expectations
  • How to start a start up (legal, technical, accreditation, etc)
  • Basic labour relations
  • Marketing
  • Managing your finances
  • Developing a business plan

Invasive Alien Plants – Clearing and Control

Duration:

The course is over a period of three (3) days. One day theoretical training and two days practical training on site. Practical training also includes the operation of large industrial clearing machines such as saw, chopper and chipper (for mulching)

Course Outline:

Invasive Alien Plants (IAPs) are widely considered as a major threat to biodiversity, human livehoods and economic development. IAPs cost South Africans tens of billions of rand annually in lost agricultural productivity and resources spent on management. Learners will be taught how to combat this threat by:

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learning what IAPs are and where they come from
  • Understanding how to control them
  • Being equipped to correctly manage the Health and Safety aspects of working with the eradication methods
  • Knowing how to prevent re-occurrence

Supervisor/Junior Management

Duration:

Four (4) days of classroom based learning from 08:30 to 17:00 each day.

Course Outline:

During each of the training objectives there are numerous exercises and roleplays. The learners are given individual and team tasks and exercises, and they must present the results. The learners will have homework to do after hours.

Learning Outcomes:

  • This course is aimed at supervisory staff such as foreman, supervisor, junior management or anyone who needs to lead and manage other people

 

 


Soil Erosion Control and Management

Duration:

One (1) day theoretical training and three (3) days practical training in the veld.

Course Outline:

The objective is to provide several well-equipped workshops where specific trade skills for selected trainees can be developed for potential employment in eco-tourism and conservation, and where fledgling entrepreneurial businesses can be grown under the protection of an incubator hub.

Learning Outcomes:

  • recognise accelerated soil erosion and the causes thereof
  • determine what kind of method to use for each kind of soil erosion
  • know how to prevent soil erosion from occurring in relation to farming, roads and grazing
  • know how to assess soil erosion and where control actions need to be initiated
  • understand the relationship between veld condition, rainwater infiltration, grazing management and soil erosion
